This wasn't a "highlight reel" tour — it was something much more honest. Minh guided us through the Mekong with a light touch and great storytelling. You could tell he loves where he's from. Ben Tre had a rustic charm I didn’t expect. We tasted candy from women who’ve been making it for 30 years. Can Tho gave us a taste of daily life on the river — from floating breakfast to rice noodle pizza. And I loved the small canal ride, where even the dogs seemed to nap in peace. The final day in Tra Su was a masterclass in quiet beauty. Minh helped me spot five kinds of birds. He knew their names in Vietnamese, Latin, and even German! I thought I was just booking a detour. I left with a deep respect for this region.
I signed up for this tour hoping for peace. What I got was much more – peace, yes, but also color, culture, and connection. David was warm, honest, and never felt scripted. He shared his own childhood memories growing up nearby, and that made everything feel real. Ben Tre was hands-on and fun – I tried weaving a mat (badly), sampled coconut wine (strong!), and lounged on a boat under swaying palms. Can Tho felt like a window into a lifestyle I’d never imagined. We had noodles for breakfast on a river while vendors floated by shouting prices. Tra Su… I didn’t expect to love it so much. The stillness, the green, the birds. David let us sit in silence on the boat – no camera, no talking. Just being. I needed that more than I knew.
Tre giorni intensi, vari e ben bilanciati. Mille grazie, Thomas!
This tour with Danh was one of the highlights of my Southeast Asia trip. I love when guides give you both information and space – and Danh did exactly that. He always made sure we were comfortable, always had a story ready if we asked, and never rushed us. Ben Tre was full of color and energy. I loved watching the coconut candy process and the mat weaving – and the coconut canals were peaceful and shady. In Can Tho, I especially enjoyed the small canals and the fruit garden (rambutan season!). But the day in Tra Su forest was the most magical. The quiet boat rides through green water, the view from the tower, and walking the bamboo bridge in silence… it felt like a hidden world. I didn’t expect to be moved. But I was.
Ben Tre was the perfect start – relaxed yet rich in culture. Chris, our guide, was warm and funny, like a local friend showing us his hometown. The boat rides were peaceful, the coconut workshop surprisingly cool (who knew coconuts had so many lives?), and the lunch with elephant ear fish was a feast. Can Tho the next day felt like a slow unraveling of real life on the water. We watched the sunrise over Cai Rang, sipped hot coffee on a tiny boat, and tasted pineapple straight from the farmer’s hands. The bike ride through quiet paths and banana trees was a nice surprise too. The last day at Tra Su Forest? Unforgettable. Birds everywhere, green duckweed like a painting, and a 360° view from the tower that just makes you go quiet. We saw monks at the Khmer pagoda and even tried sugar palm juice. Thanks, Chris, for making it feel like more than just a tour.
Lâm made the Mekong Delta come alive. His stories weren’t just informative; they were personal and full of humor. Like when he teased us that coconut candy is the "official currency of Ben Tre" – we believed him for a second! Each day had its own mood: Ben Tre was playful and hands-on, Can Tho was quiet and reflective, and Tra Su was majestic. We saw traditional brick-making, handwoven mats, rode xe lôi through villages, watched sunrise noodle boats, biked past sleepy dogs, and even met “Mr. Cacao” at his farm. But the moment that stays with me? Sitting still on a wooden sampan in Tra Su, surrounded by green, while Lâm whispered, “Look left. That’s the rare black-backed kingfisher.” He was right.
I’m a skeptical planner. I had read about Ben Tre and Tra Su before and expected the usual “get in, take photos, move on” experience. But Minh surprised me. From the moment he picked us up in HCMC, his energy and love for his region were contagious. He knew when to give us space and when to jump in with stories, jokes, or a surprise mango from someone’s garden (true story). Day 1 in Ben Tre was colorful and immersive, and Minh let us linger a bit longer at the mat weaving village because my mom was fascinated. Day 2 in Can Tho was serene and soulful. I almost teared up on the sampan in the small canal. Minh told us, “This is where I bring my soul to rest.” By Day 3, we were completely in love with the region. Tra Su forest is something out of a fairytale. If you’re hesitating, don’t. Book it. Ask for Minh.
